Snee Farm swimmers regain lead

STATE REPORT

Staff reports
Tuesday, July 22, 2008

A year ago, Parkshore made a strong bid to wrest the Coastal Carolina Aquatic Association championship away from Snee Farm before the Piranhas succumbed to the longtime titleholder.

This year, Coosaw Creek appeared to be the team in prime position to knock off Snee Farm, grabbing a first-day lead just as Parkshore had done the year before. But, just as in 2007, Snee Farm used a strong second-day performance during the three-day event to move back to the top of the team standings.

Trailing Coosaw Creek by 37 points after Sunday's competition, Snee Farm grabbed a 55 1/2-point advantage Monday night over the Crocodiles entering today's medley and freestyle relays, and is on the verge of winning its 20th straight championship.

Snee Farm leads the team standings with 2,135 points. Rounding out the top five teams are Coosaw Creek (2,079 1/2), Parkshore (1,783 1/2), Daniel Island (1,623 1/2) and Northbridge Terrace (1,490).

Final-day coverage of the CCAA championship meet will appear in Wednesday's Post and Courier, and extensive results will be published Sunday.

The tournament features 10 teams, including the host team from West Ashley Youth Sports, a youth athletics partnership between St. Andrew's and the City of Charleston Recreation Department. Other entrants include teams from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee and Virginia.

It is a double-elimination tournament, with the championship round scheduled for July 29 at 6 p.m. Opening-round games begin at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday.
