Woman dies in interstate accident

Saturday, July 12, 2008

LADSON — A Summerville woman was killed Thursday night after losing control of the car she was driving on Interstate 26 near College Park Road, the authorities said.

Melissa Niomi Ocasio, 27, died at the scene of multiple trauma injuries, Berkeley County Deputy Coroner George Oliver said.

Ocasio had been traveling toward Charleston in a 1998 Sentra when she struck the median guardrail around 10:20 p.m., said Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins of the Highway Patrol.

The Nissan came to rest in the lane closest to the median. A 2003 Chevrolet Malibu headed in the same direction hit the car from behind.

The Chevrolet driver, 25-year-old Leslie Mizell, also of Summerville, was taken to Trident Regional Medical Center, Collins said. The hospital reported Friday morning that Mizell had been treated and released.

The Highway Patrol said both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Its a wonder there aren't more of these tragic accidents down there on I-26.

Mr. Riley, if you want to raise more money to run the failed City of Charleston on maybe you should station your people on your section of I-26 in the morning and evening.

With scores of people traveling at 70-85 mph you probably could raise a small fortune in fines.

I wonder why City of Charleston police are doing traffic in the City of North Charleston. Must not be any crime to worry about in the City of Charleston.

jca - "I wonder why City of Charleston police are doing traffic in the City of North Charleston. Must not be any crime to worry about in the City of Charleston."

Doing traffic means pulling over people and giving tickets out. Maybe even arresting people. Tickets to be paid in court in the City of Charleston?????

I got back from seeing the passenger of Missy's car his name is Dave Readdy, he is going through a lot right now, his injuries include: bruised lung, 3 broken ribs, a cracked sternum, a broken pelvis, and he might not be able to walk ever again- so the doctors say. But Dave and his family need all the prayers right now as they face a long road of recovery. Dave feels really bad about what happened and is struggling with the guilt of losing the driver of the car Missy. Dave got airlifted to MUSC and is in the TRAUMA unit there. They hit water on 26 and it cut the power to the car, so they had no control of the car and no lights-before they were hit. I ask that you pray for all the involved families and I ask that you pray for Dave.
THANK YOU!!

There is nothing in this article that indicated there was a passenger Dave Readdy in Missy's car. Are you saying there was? hope he recovers.
