Police: Burglaries might be linked

Tuesday, July 8, 2008

MOUNT PLEASANT — Detectives think that up to 10 home burglaries during the past month might have been committed by the same person or group of people.

All the incidents happened during the daytime, most of them in subdivisions near Rifle Range Road and the Isle of Palms connector, according to a recent press release from Mount Pleasant police.

The department is asking residents to report anything suspicious and to keep an eye on neighbors. In particular, people should watch for anyone soliciting business in residential areas without a valid business license.

Anyone with information on suspicious activity can call the Mount Pleasant Police Department's investigative bureau at 884-4176.

Imagine that, Crime in Mt. Pleasant, next it may be IOP.

If the MPPD would spend more time on real crime like this, instead of running speed traps in that area, the criminals would already be in jail...The only way that these burglars will be caught is if they drive away too fast and get caught by a traffic cop...Pay attention MP City Council!

All of those beach goers. They got stuck in traffic and decided to knock over some houses 'til the traffic cleared.

These are fairly populated subdivisions. These may be smart criminals using some type of service vans to get access.
And it is true that Mt Pleasant, Sullivan's Island and IOP do not have much crime. Wanna take a guess on why????

Early, not many democrats in Mt P, IOP and SI ? Just a guess ?

what do win for a correct answer ?

I hope a .38 for when I'm in NoChas. .

These crimes might be related - well, duh. Who's running that police department, Barney Fife?

My guess would be that there isn't much poverty in those areas. How's that Early?

lovelyone: hmmmm, though your answer is a good one, i highly doubt it is the one that early is referring to.

If I say it I will be called a race baiter so I'll just let him be able to pretend that that's not what he meant and wanted to say.

As you can imagine, in poor white areas there are NO crimes. In poor Asian areas there are NO crimes.

So the supposition is the reason there is so little crime in those areas is simply put; "Blacks as a whole cannot afford to live in those areas and only white people can".

geesh! I develop a headache everytime I come on this board.

Yeah, blame it on Democrats. Maybe they're robbing all the rich Republicans who populate Mount Pleasant?

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but there are plenty of non-white residents living in all of those neighborhoods.
After all, they(non-whites) can work and earn a good living just like anyone else.
Crime in general is on the increase East of the Cooper, and I would contribute it mostly to the growth factor.

Poor Asian areas? Asian-Americans (I hate hyphenated-American names, but you get the point) are the highest earning and highest educated and least incarcerated American demographic. You are using a fantasy definition with "poor asian areas".

Look, eyfigueroa, certain races commit more crime in America than others per capita, that's documented fact from the FBI crime stats. The same factors that cause certain races to have the lowest average incomes in America are also the same reason they commit crimes.

In the CHS area, where are the "poor white areas" and "poor Asian areas" with high crime, where one wouldn't feel safe walking at night? Really, tell me.

I can tell you the "poor black areas" and "poor hispanic areas" though.

All this PC crap is so stupid.

That’s right cid, attack me. I stand by my assertion, forgive me for not caring whether you agree or not.

Unlike many who post here (and I may be making a broad assumption, but I do so based on the comments posted by many of the 'regulars'), I've lived elsewhere in the United States, suburban, rural and metropolitan. I've also lived in Europe.

So when I speak of poor White areas, poor Asian areas, I DO KNOW of what I speak.

Cid, just because you've not visually observed something doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Isn't Christianity and many of the other World's religions based on "faith"?

I don't mean to come off as condescending to you, however, Asians aren't just J*p*nese or Chinese. There are many ethnicities and in many urban areas throughout our nation there are enclaves of all types of minorities both affluent and poor. The 2nd or 3rd fastest growing gang population is one of Asian descent.

Crime follows poverty and poverty knows no color lines. Lack of education, career opportunities, drug/alcohol abuse and most of all, poor personal choices are the sparks that light the tinder of poverty.

So yes fellow Charlestonians, there is an ever increasing problem with crime in the Black and Hispanic communities in this area. But don’t be complacent and think that Charleston is some sort of microcosm of the nation as a whole. Crime is a problem whose borders are ever expanding.

So go ahead Cid95 and call attack me. I’ve learned to expect that of those who cannot engage me in a cogent respectful debate.

Oh BTW, I will agree with you that Political Correctness has run amuck in our society and those who either promote it or wallow in it are only doing our nation a grave disservice.

rtc: "I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but there are plenty of non-white residents living in all of those neighborhoods.

(WHISPERING) shhhhhhhhh! Don't say this aloud. If word gets out then there will be ANOTHER White flight. And where will they go?

I would rather not see my pristine Summerville suburb infiltrated by Subarus and Volvo wagons.

;-)

Well, we have two things in common eyf, neither of us care what the other thinks and we both hate PC crap. Welcome to the faceless world of the internet, where no argument or debate is ever won or even truly ended.

And I've lived outside the US too, on two different continents and traveled widely to many nations. You're not alone in that.

And the facts are clear. Property values and racial demographics of an area are excellent predictors of crime levels in the US and all over the world for that matter. That isn't something that can be debated, it's verifiable and you know that.

The reasons why - therein lies the issue / question / problem / discussion depending on how you look at it.
