Firemen respond to 2 fires in North Charleston
Tuesday, July 8, 2008
An air-conditioning unit plugged into an overloaded extension cord and a lightning strike sent North Charleston firefighters on calls over the weekend. The extension-cord fire displaced two adults from a home at 2216 Clinton St. in the Accabee neighborhood, Battalion Chief Eric Phillips said. Crews responded to the house at 9:16 p.m. Friday after a smoke detector alerted the residents to the fire. There was significant damage to the room where the fire started, plus heat and smoke damage throughout the house. Family members were assisting the two displaced people, Phillips said. Crews also responded to a lightning strike at a business at 3455 Airframe Drive around 6 p.m. Saturday. Phillips said they saw light smoke and checked the area, finding minor damage but no fire.
