Marketing help for nonprofits

Staff report
Sunday, July 6, 2008

Lowcountry nonprofits can now apply to get some free marketing advice this fall through the 11th annual CreateAthon project.

CreateAthon, scheduled for Sept. 18, is a 24-hour creative blitz during which marketing agencies offer pro bono advice to nonprofit groups. The selected nonprofits ordinarily have little or no budget to get the word out about what they do.

The Riggs advertising agency in Columbia founded CreateAthon in 1998, and it is now an international effort involving 40 agencies holding CreateAthons in various cities. It benefits 1,008 nonprofits with 2,143 projects valued at $8.5 million.

Trio Solutions, a marketing communications consulting firm, is the official CreateAthon agency for the Charleston metro area.

July 28 is the deadline for CreateAthon applications. Trio Solutions will select five nonprofits for the project, with winners to be announced Aug. 4. Go to www.trio-solutions.com for more information or to download an application.
