Lt. Gov.’s driving again turns heads

The Post and Courier
Wednesday, July 2, 2008

During his six years as South Carolina’s lieutenant governor, Andre Bauer has made headlines behind the wheel, either for speeding or running red lights.

This year, he’s attracting attention again — without any help from the cops.

Bauer traded in his old Grand Wagoneer, a jeep that got about 8 miles to the gallon, for a Smart Car, one of the first imported into South Carolina.

“Everywhere I go, people want to talk about,” he said. “They want to know about the gas mileage (36 miles per gallon in town; 41 on the highway) and how much it costs (he paid about $15,300).”

Read more about the lieutenant governor's new car in Thursday's editions of The Post and Courier.

Give the Lt. Gov. a hand. He's still got to go some to get better milage than my 1999 Chevy Metro. I get 48 mpg. Not too bad I think.

36/41 mpg? I was getting that gas mileage in the mid '80's. It's called a CRX.

So what happened to the BMW that jackass was driving like a bat out of hell when he claimed that, because he was "SC-2," he couldn't be given a speeding ticket?

Also, when I click on a headline that looks interesting, it would be nice to get the article then instead of something telling me to check back tomorrow for the actual story. Why not just wait and publish the whole damn thing then?

I actually got an e-mail from Bauer's campaign people a couple of months ago. It was an invitation to take part in a fund raiser for him, at, of all places, the Lowe's Motor Speedway. How appropriate.
