South Carolina assistant coach Monte Lee will be the new head baseball coach at the College of Charleston.

Sources close to the search process said Tuesday that Lee had been offered and accepted the position left vacant when former coach John Pawlowski, who took the head coaching job at Auburn on June 20.

Lee, 31, is a former standout player for the Cougars and College of Charleston graduate.

He served six season as an assistant for the Gamecocks, working primarily with the hitters and outfielders. He also served this past season as South Carolina's recruiting coordinator.

I am still trying to figure out what was meant when Charleston athletics director Joe Hull said Foxhall's decision to withdraw caught him by surprise. What?

While Hull can hire whomever he wants, I do not believe him when he says that SF's withdrawal caught him by surprise. He stalled until he knew that SF would have to make a decision. I wasn't taken by surprise, as I figured that each day that passed made it less likely that SF would be hired. Hull is acting like one of those guys on All Star Wrestling. You know the one who hits the good guy over the head with a folding chair when the referee isn't looking and then feigns surprise when the referee points the finger of blame his way. "What, why are you looking at me?" Surprise, my ___!

I don't understand it either. I have watched Scott Foxhall over the past 5 years with more than passing interest. I watched him transform players like Jake Goldberg from substitutes into weekend pitchers.

This may be a blessing in disguise for Scott Foxhall, considering the lack of support by the school's administration, which treats the baseball program as an afterthought. I am convinced that the C of C has no clue about the quality of its baseball program. I am sure this is all tied together somehow.

What a joke.
Foxhall was done dirty and deserved better. CofC is losing a class act.
