Staff report
Tuesday, January 1, 2008
The last day of 2007 could have been a North Charleston man's last day alive. The 24-year-old man was shot in the head early Monday morning and survived. Isaiah Jackson and two others said they were traveling eastbound on Interstate 26 about 3:30 a.m., according to a police report. Jackson and the two men said a vehicle unknown to them pulled up behind their black SUV and fired several shots. Jackson told police a bullet grazed his head while the other two men ducked down. Jackson said the incident happened near the interstate's Aviation Avenue interchange. After the shooting, the men drove to Jackson's Houston Street residence, where EMS responded to an emergency call. The victim was alert and able to answer questions, according to the police report. Jackson was transported to Medical University Hospital. He was treated and released Monday, an MUSC representative said. The SUV had a bullet hole in the right rear window, police said. The bullet traveled through the rear seat and the front passenger seat and into the back of the victim's head, police said. Police said they have some leads on suspects but have not made any ar- rests. If you have any information about this shooting, please contact Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.

Of course, there is quite a bit missing from this story. Young men, out at 3 am, their vehicle was randomly shot at…If they ever decide to tell the whole story, maybe the investigation into the issue can be successful.

C_SB and CB hit it, it's not just a random act. We all know that. I can't believe this stuff goes on around here.

I don't think this was random at all.
Tripsa - I agree!

There is a great deal about this story that does not add up. What is going on with the wild wild west mentality? Shoot outs at the gas station; shoot outs on the Interstate...
I'm with you MP, C_SB, and CB.

I think it was a little of both. This could have been a gang initiation (sp). These gangs know if they shot a black male or minority they could possibly get away. If they shot or kill a white person, it would be a dangerous man hunt and NCPD would be all over them.

palmettogirl that would imply that the police does not pursue crimes against blacks as vigerously as they do when committed against whites? While I agree with some of that there probably is a reason. One maybe, and that it's a fact, that blacks commit a large part of the violent crimes, just watch and read the news.

And the stupidity that is the race card has been dealt...
Maybe I'm missing something but where in this or yesterday's article does it mention race? Both list a black SUV.
We are what we eat so does that mean we're also the color of our car? Am I going to turn green? Well, at least it's a nice shade of green. I just hope I don't start purring like the green girl did in Star Trek.
