‘The Artist Speaks’
The Ellis-Nicholson Gallery, 11/2 Broad Street, is currently presenting the gallery’s new "The Artist Speaks" series, consisting of artist demonstrations and lectures during the months of February and March.
The first of the series will take place at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, with Rebecca Johnston presenting "Photography with a Painted Twist."
Johnston’s focus will be painting on black and white photographs as she explains the steps involved. This will include the printing process, as will as the application of color and technique. She will show how to apply transparent oils to the black and white photographs while maintaining the details of the original.
"During the lecture I will be demonstrating with some of my favorite works from travels around the country. Most of the photographs are reflective of the natural beauty of plants and landscapes," Johnston says. "Many of the macro shots highlight the organic forms that are found in even the smallest details of nature."
There will be a reception and chance to talk with the artist immediately following the demonstration.
The event is free and open to the public but seating is limited. Please call the Ellis-Nicholson Gallery at 722-5353 to reserve your seat.
