Summerville will get another shot at Patriots

Summerville 50, Battery Creek 6

The Summerville High School wrestling team rolled over Battery Creek on Monday, 50-6, to advance to the AAAA Lower State championship match.

The Dolphins (17-9) demonstrated they have improved since the first time they faced Summerville (23-2) in early January, but the Wave still dominated the third-round playoff match. On Wednesday, Summerville will travel to face Fort Dorchester, a winner over Dutch Fork

Summerville only managed two pins in Monday's match, compared to the seven it earned in the first meeting between the teams. Aaron Hansen pinned his opponent in the 112-pound class and Andrae Deweese won the heavyweight match with a first-round pin. However, Battery Creek only managed to win two weight divisions.

'Overall, we beat a team that has been coming on strong in the last month,' Summerville coach Kenny Walker said. 'Battery Creek always fights you tooth-and-nail so I'm pleased. I am a little disappointed in how we finished some matches..'

The match marked the return to the mat of two Summerville wrestlers who have been nursing injuries. Josh Porter injured his shoulder the first time the teams faced off and dropped the 152-pound match. He came back with a vengeance, scoring with five takedowns en route to handing David Miller a 16-7 loss.

Miles Perkins returned at 119 for the first time since injuring his hand. He scored with four near falls and two takedowns en route to earning a technical fall.

Battery Creek's two wins came at 125, where Bobby Whitman earned an 11-8 decision, and at 215, where Steadman Washington earned a 5-4 decision.
