Bank teller's tip leads to missing 68-year-old
Staff report
Wednesday, August 20, 2008
A bank teller called police Tuesday morning after spotting an elderly man who was reported missing after he disappeared in downtown Charleston the previous afternoon, police said. Officers arrived at Rutledge Avenue and Moultrie Street soon after the 9:15 a.m. call to reunite Gerald Stinson, 68, with his family, according to Charles Francis, Charleston police public information officer. The teller recognized Stinson from media reports. Stinson lives in Rock Hill but had previously resided on the north end of the Charleston peninsula. The Alzheimer's patient disappeared around noon Friday near Broad and State streets while visiting the city with his sister.

I am really glad that this story had a happy ending. The bank teller was alert and deserves to be commended for his or her actions.
Also to thank are the media outlets who immediately put this man's picture and information out for the public to see. The P&C, newscasts, etc. Without their help, the teller would not have recognized this man, and who knows what could have happened to him?

I am so glad that they found this poor man and got him safely back to his family. Any number of things could have happened to him.
The bank teller did a great job, and so did the media by getting his picture out so quickly.

Good work, Mr/Ms Teller! Reassuring to know that some people are aware.
Yes, and good work P&C.
A definite happy ending for this family.

We should use the Amber Alert system for cases like this. Not a missing child, I realize, but the AA's could still be effective in tracking down lost Alzheimer patients, abducted adults, etc.

Many kudos to this caring and observant teller for helping reunite this gentleman with his family. A very happy ending, indeed!
And I agree with bribetaker, the AA system would be a wonderful tool in cases such as this!
