$1.2M given for projects

The state Department of Education has awarded $1.2 million for 338 classroom projects that promote best practices, creativity and innovation.

In the Lowcountry, Dorchester 2 had the most recipients of the grant with 15 teachers at five elementary schools — Reeves, Summerville, Newington, Fort Dorchester and Windsor Hill.

Five teachers at four Berkeley County schools — Boulder Bluff, Devon Forest and Hanahan elementaries and Westview Primary — as well as eight teachers at six Charleston County schools — Charleston Progressive Academy, Ladson Elementary, Laing Middle, Mary Ford Elementary, the Montessori Community School and West Ashley High — received money as well.

Dorchester 4 had six teachers at the same school, Williams Memorial Elementary, receive the grant.

A total of 338 EIA Teacher Awards were approved from a pool of 851 applicants.

Money for best practices, creativity, and innovation. At what? How about awards for teaching the three r's? They need to be taught their A B C's, not A, B, CDrom.
