Elderly man found safe

Staff report
Tuesday, August 19, 2008

A bank teller called police this morning after spotting a missing elderly man who disappeared in downtown Charleston the previous afternoon, police said.

Officers arrived the Rutledge Avenue and Moultrie street bank branch soon after the 9:15 a.m. call to reunite Gerald Stinson, 68, with his family, wrote Charles Francis, police public information officer, in an e-mail. The teller recognized Stinson from media reports.

Stinson lives in Rock Hill but had previously resided on the north end of the Charleston peninsula. He disappeared around noon Friday near the intersection of Broad and State streets while visiting the city with his sister.

Kudos to the very observant teller in recognizing this gentleman and getting him reunited with his family. A very happy ending, indeed!
