Hundreds convened in South Carolina's farm belt for the Palmetto Annual Conference of the African Methodist Episcopal Church's Seventh District, which got underway at Hopewell AME Church on Monday. The week-long conference draws delegates of AME Churches who reside along the state's eastern region. This year's emphasis will be on education, according to Presiding Bishop Preston Warren Williams II. He plans to broaden education programs, provide youth with opportunities to gather together and invite seminary professors to lead sessions in an effort to fortify the religious knowledge of clergy and laity, he said. It's not practical to send church members off to school, he said, so "We brought seminary to them." For more read Wednesday's Post and Courier.
