Globe-trotting Jennings' stock soaring

It's been an incredible summer for Pinewood Prep basketball star Milton Jennings. The 6-9 shooting forward's stock has gone off the charts during a hectic but productive summer.

Jennings, a two-time first-team All-Lowcountry selection and the Gatorade state player of the year, is the No. 9 prospect in the country for the Class of 2009, according to Rivals.com.

And, Jennings is one of nine players from around the country selected by Nike Elite Youth Basketball to play against some of the top teams in South America. Jennings arrived in Brazil on Friday and will play four games in three cities before arriving back in the states next weekend. The other players selected include Avery Bradley (Bellarmine Prep/Tacoma, Wash.), Jamal Coombs (Tilton/Tilton, N.H.), Keith Gallon (Oak Hill Academy/Mouth of Wilson, Va.) Xavier Henry (Putnam City/Oklahoma City, Okla.), Tommy Mason-Griffin (Oak Hill/Mouth of Wilson, Va.), Alex Oriakhi (Tilton School/Tilton, N.H.), Daniel Orton (Bishop McGuinness/Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Phil Pressey (Episcopal School of Dallas).

Jennings prepared for the trip by participating in the Nike Global Challenge, which was held in Beaverton, Ore. He played against some of the top teams around the world, and fared well.

July also was a busy month. He participated in the Reebok Summer Championships, which were held in Las Vegas, the Duel in the Desert, which was held in Chandler, Ariz., and the LeBron James Skills Academy, which was held in Akron, Ohio.

In the Las Vegas tournament, Jennings played center at times and responded well. He had a 24-point effort against a team from Los Angeles, hitting 9-of-12. Jennings made the all-tournament team in Arizona. He was a consensus top 10 player in the James camp.

Jennings traveled to Charlottesville, Va., in June to participate in The NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp.

Sertoma draws near

The 2008 Muhler Sertoma Classic will be held Thursday and Friday at The Citadel's Johnson Hagood Stadium.

Action begins at 7 p.m. both days. Tickets are $15. Tickets can be purchased from cheerleaders from the participating schools or at the gate.
