Shrimp is on the menu for this week's Trivia Sunday at 11:30 a.m. starts the 21st Annual Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival at Alhambra Hall and Park in Mount Pleasant. The Blessing of the Fleet is an old tradition in fishing communities celebrated as a way to ensure a bountiful catch and to safeguard the men on the boats. The winner of the past two weeks, Robyn Metcalf, will take on Web designer, Tim Alexander.
Questions 1. How many legs does the average shrimp have? 2. This "color" is the name used for raw, uncooked shrimp. 3. A shrimp's head is what percentage of its body? 4. What's been done to shrimp if it's called "scampi?" 5. On average, how many pounds of shrimp do Americans consume every year? 6. Along with shrimp, what is the most popular seafood in American restaurants? 7. "Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it." Name the movie where this quote originated. 8. In England, rather than seeing "shrimp" on the menu, what might you see instead? 9. "Shrimp on the barbie" was originally part of an Australian television ad. What Australian actor, best known for his 1986 film "Crocodile Dundee," said the line? 10. Robyn's answers 1. Six. 2. Pink? 3. Half. 4. Um ... it's sauteed. 5. I think we eat 10 million pounds of shrimp. 6. Swordfish. 7. "Forrest Gump." Obviously. 8. I don't know. Do they say crayfish? 9. Oh, it's that guy... I can't think what his name is. 10. Shrimp and grits.
Tim's answers 1. I'm guessing eight. 2. Are all these questions about shrimp 'cause if so, I might be in trouble. I'll say green. 3. 50 percent. 4. It's like a saute with butter or something. 5. The number of pounds? I'm going with a really big number. One billion. 6. It's either scallops or salmon. I'm leaning toward salmon. 7. "Forrest Gump." 8. No clue. 9. Paul Hogan. 10. Shrimp and grits.
Conclusion I have to give a shout out to both contestants for being such good sports about the trivia theme this week. That was a lot of trivia about shrimp, but despite his prediction of not doing well, Alexander pulled off a big win.
