Sunday, April 20, 2008
State Sen. Randy Scott, R-Summerville, was arrested on charges of driving under the influence Saturday night.
SUMMERVILLE State Sen. Randolph Scott, R-Summerville, was arrested late Saturday on charges of driving under the influence after a Dorchester County Sheriff's sergeant said he saw him driving erratically.
The sergeant made the contact with Scott at a residence on Froman Drive in Summerville.
The sergeant reported that Scott did not successfully complete certain field sobriety tests. Scott was arrested and taken to the Dorchester County jail annex in Summerville, where he remained until receiving a bond hearing around 7 a.m. Sunday. Randolph Scott was released on a $992 personal recognizance bond.

Ha, I was behind him on Central a few weeks ago and saw him weaving and driving crazy. Glad to see his "status" didn't deter our good Sgt. from doing his job.

Scott will get out of this thing, just like the legislature in Charleston who pulled a gun on the SCE&G workers. However, if it was you or I, we would end up in somekind of rehabilitation center and have to take safe driving lessons, etc., etc., until it practically bankrupted us.
I wonder if DUI is sufficient to do an alter call and rededication of one's life to Christ, or if that is saved for greater public transgressions?
He violated the laws of the State of South Carolina and should resign his position in the state senate.

Why is it that a state senator can get arrested, but the mayor of Mt.P is untouchable?

It is about time Randy Scott was arrested for DUI, he has being doing that cr*p in Dorchester County for years. If he is smart he will take down his signs and resign immediately. No one likes him anyway, he just thinks he is popular. As far as the mayor of Mt.P - he shouldn't be untouchable and it is wrong that he is. Bet if I was driving around DUI I would get arrested too - status or title does not give you a free ticket to do whatever you please and break the law.

Who is next to be arrested? Booby Harrell and his illegal mexican supporters?
Sorry, Scott. You have to resign. If not, the SC General Assembly better follow the law and move to remove you from office.

What is the deal with the alcoholic legislators all of a sudden? Just two weeks ago a Republican State Rep in North Carolina got busted with a DWI. I wonder if Scott voted in the affirmative for Sanford’s stricter DUI laws.

If I get a DUI I lose my job. Its only fair that he should forfeit his current position. However, he should not be banned from election after he has paid his debt to society. What do you expect? Elected officials are nothing but the old plantation elite - come to town. Lot's of drugs and alcohol in the political field, huh? Ravenel's Coke, Mt. Pleasant's Mayor drunk driving, the list is longer, i'm certain.

The governor will suspend him and the senate will remove him from office.

Being charged and being convicted are two things. The field test are flawed and are subjective.

Summerville state senator charged with DUI
The Associated Press
(from the STATE PAPER)
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. --
A state senator from Summerville has been charged with driving under the influence.
Dorchester County deputies say Randy Scott was pulled over Saturday night and arrested after failing a field sobriety test.
But Scott's lawyer says the Summerville Republican struggled with walking heel-to-toe in the rain because he lost a leg in a hunting accident.
Defense attorney Reese Joye also says a videotape recorded by police shows Scott was not intoxicated according to a breath test.
Scott is up for re-election this year and Joye called the arrest politically motivated.
Deputies refused to provide more details about the arrest Sunday.
Scott was released from jail on a $992 bond.

I have a few questions....
Where had he been? at a party, out to dinner with friends, at a fund raiser? Why was he driving erratically? Does the officer have a video showing him driving erratically? Is there a history of DUI? (Not that it would be admissible in court)
I don't know this man and don't anything about his service as state senator. I just think that SC's legislature is full of a lot of idiots, and we need to get rid of them. This good ol' boy system has to end.

Some think they're above the law, and usually are. But I agree don't rush to judgement so fast the police have been wrong on this before. God knows Dorchester County Sheriffs Dept has motive...?
