The Village Tavern in Mount Pleasant is both a popular neighborhood bar and a quality music venue. On any given night, you can find mostly Mount Pleasant locals bellied up to the bar during happy hour and beyond, enjoying a burger or chicken wings with their beers. On many nights throughout the week, you can enjoy live, original music. It's worth noting that the Village Tavern features live music because it is one of many venues that continues to fill in the gap left by the closing of Cumberland's on King Street. While venues such as the Music Farm and The Plex occasionally feature local bands who perform original music, the establishments are so large that it's sometimes impractical for both the bands and the bar. Cumberland's was perfect in terms of room size and location, but since it closed, long-established venues such as the Village Tavern have become even more crucial. Along with the Pour House and the Oasis on James Island, the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms and the Tin Roof, The Map Room and Halligan's in West Ashley, the Village Tavern in Mount Pleasant serves the needs of local musicians and music lovers looking for a hot spot to perform or enjoy music. The Village Tavern is also a real treat for beer connoisseurs with more than 100 selections. On the night of my visit, a friend of mine (and a beer connoisseur himself) was thrilled to get his hands on a bottle of "Shiner Bock," a beer native to his home state of Texas. Whether you're a music lover, a beer lover or just someone who loves a good time, the Village Tavern is a great place to find each. The "Village" of Mount Pleasant is indeed lucky to have such a tavern.

Oh yes, the Village Tavern features good beer, but they serve much more exotic and interesting stuff than Shiner Bock — high-gravity Belgian ales, Trappist ales, specialty German Bockbiers, seasonal lagers and ales from the UK, and loads of flavorful domestic microbrews. Cheers.
