New bistro

Mia's chef Thierry Goulard has opened 61 Bistro Grill, 2004 Ashley River Road, West Ashley. The former Nathan's will continue to serve the same deli-style breakfast and lunch seven days a week, but will transform into a French-influenced casual eatery in the evenings. Dinner hours are 5-9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with early-bird specials available 5-6:30 p.m. A wine and beer license is pending. Guests are invited to bring their own or enjoy a complimentary glass of beer or wine from Goulard.

Feeling potluck-y

Low Country Local First and Slow Food Charleston will host "Chef's Potluck," an afternoon of food, music and beverages at Middleton Place on April 27. Tickets are $40, and proceeds from the event will support the sustainable agricultural efforts of Low Country Local. The event takes place 4-7 p.m. and features chefs from Anson, EVO, Fez, Fish, High Cotton, Glass Onion, Middleton Place and Slightly North of Broad. That's smooth

Smoothie King is now open in Mount Pleasant. Inside, fruit aromas fill the air, so stop in and "be good to yourself." It is located at 976 Houston Northcutt Blvd. in Mount Pleasant. The number is 971-4676. With its early opening times, now you can jump-start your day with Mother Nature.

Dining with Friends

The Dining with Friends finale will be held 9-11 p.m. May 3 at the Charleston Maritime Center. The event will feature champagne, desserts, coffee and music. Call 747-2273 for more information or e-mail information@aids-services.com. The Maritime Center is located at 10 Wharfside St., Charleston.

Movie and a meal

Now when a food scene gets your mouth watering, the Cinebarre concept will satisfy your hunger. Coming soon to the site of the former Mount Pleasant Regal Cinemas will be a Cinebarre offering alcoholic beverages, food, 10 movie screens and a whole new way to go out to dinner and a movie. The opening date has not yet been established.

Cooking show

The Taste of Home cooking show makes its spring debut May 1 at the Wando High School Performing Arts Center. Participants will receive goodie bags, coupons, gifts from local merchants and door prizes, along with the cooking class conducted by Michelle Roberts of Taste of Home. Tickets are $10.
