BEHIND BARS

Special to the Post and Courier
Favorite drinks Last week we asked our readers what defined the perfect cocktail. We were a bit surprised with the answers. Jeffrey from Charleston wrote in and told us, "the perfect cocktail is a trifecta — just the right amount of liquor, just the right amount of mixer and the beautiful bartender that is shakin' it (the cocktail that is) right in front of you." Stephanie tells us that the perfect cocktail in town is made by Kevin S., at Torch. She just loves the four times fruit-infused vodka that they serve. Greg from Daniel Island says that Luca at Tristan has perfected the Espresso Martini. Now this writer is here to tell you, Mr. Greg makes a bold statement. He continues, "the concoction is perfected with 1990 Espresso Vodka, a hint of mint-flavored Kahlua and then just the right amount of chocolate rimming the martini glass." Torch's Trinity When Torch first opened at 545 King St., few people wanted to wonder that far up King to grab a cocktail. Tonight, Torch turns three years old and is giving you the present. On the turntable tonight enjoy DJ Moo Moo, Danny Seltzer, DJ Triad and Thomas Happel. Complimentary vodka tasting from Level 42 will be available, and there will be a Red Bull and vodka ice luge. Bottle service and limo service will be available. Reservations are suggested. For more details call 723-9333. Vodka with a Southern accent Nothing screams the Old South more than sweet tea. As we told you last week, Firefly Vodka now has its own version of sweet tea vodka. You can enjoy this taste of the Lowcountry at Chai's on Wednesday as you sit back and listen to reggae on the patio. Chai's is located at 462 King St. Spanish tasting O'Hara and Flynn, 160 East Bay St., will host a wine tasting 6-8 p.m. tonight. The owners of the Rondan Rioja winery will feature six of their boutique wines for tasting. Reservations are encouraged and may be made by calling 534-1916.
