2 from area charged after traffic stopWednesday, April 9, 2008
AIKEN — Two Lowcountry residents were arrested after a traffic stop here Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said they were in a car with a large amount of drugs and tens of thousands of dollars in cash. About 3:50 p.m., a highway patrolman stopped a 2004 Ford Explorer on Interstate 20 near mile marker 17, Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said. He said the officer spotted marijuana in the car, and a male passenger ran away but was later caught. Officers found a large amount of marijuana, cocaine and cash in the vehicle, Beres said. Authorities were still processing the evidence late Tuesday. Valdis Norris Matthews, 27, of Hollywood is charged with resisting arrest, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute marijuana, Beres said. He said that Tamara Grant, 22, of North Charleston is charged with speeding and simple possession of marijuana. |

All these stories on the police are sure blowing a hole in the theory of the -- gambling goons -- that the police were picking on them to avoid real police-work. I’m enjoying the heck out of this.

How can one rate the over all effectiveness & professionalism of local law enforcement simply by reading a rash of stories indicating that police are making arrests for various violations?
While reports of arrests often hit the paper, stories about an investigation that should have been done but wasn't, rarely gets a byline.
