Trivia to celebrate The Cooper River Bridge Run The Cooper River Bridge Run is one of the biggest 10K races in the country and a local tradition here in Charleston. Running or walking across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is a thrill everyone should experience at least once. Last week's winner (and 2008 Bridge Run participant) Kelly Burley takes on Jack Hayes, who works on a charter sailboat. Questions 1. What was the first year of the Bridge Run? 2. The first race was a 10K. True or false? 3. How many years has there been a tie for first place? 4. What talk-show host raced using a pseudonym in 1994? 5. Runners from what country have dominated the race since the early '90s? 6. What was the first year that over 10,000 runners participated? 7. What famous comedian fired the cannon and ran the event in 1997? 8. The 2006 race debuted what category as a competitive event? 9. What was special about the 2006 race? 10. Who's winning design will appear on the Bridge Run T-shirt this year? Kelly's answers 1. It was sometime in the late '70s. I'll say 1979. 2. True? 3. One. That's a guess by the way. 4. Was it Oprah? 5. Kenya, like every other race. 6. I don't know this one. Say ... 1988. 7. Robin Williams. Another guess. 8. A wheelchair race. 9. Ummm, wasn't it the first year on the new bridge? 10. Oh gosh. I have no idea. I like it though. Jack's answers 1. Well if this is the 31st year, then it had to be 1978. 2. This seems like it might be a trick question. My answer's gotta be false. 3. A tie for first? I'm thinking it happened one time. 4. Oprah Winfrey. 5. Obviously Kenya. 6. Mmm. No idea. How 'bout 1993? 7. Bill Murray. 8. Wheelchairs? 9. First time on the Ravenel bridge. 10. No clue. Conclusion Well I don't know who'll win the Bridge Run this year, but there's a new Head2Head trivia champ. With a couple of lucky guesses, Hayes has eight correct answers to Burley's five, which means we'll be seeing him next week. Good luck to everyone participating in this year's Bridge Run! Correct answers 1. 1978. 2. False. Police ordered the finish line moved up 150 meters. 3. One. It was in 1980. 4. Oprah Winfrey. 5. Kenya. 6. 1995. 7. Bill Murray. 8. Wheelchair. 9. It took place on the new Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. 10. Aubrey Johnson.
