Inaugural 10-miler set for Folly Nov. 10

Thursday, November 1, 2007

Ten miles. It should be a classic distance run, like the mile or the 10K, but it's not.

The only area 10-miler in recent years was the Low Country 10 Mile in Walterboro. Now filling the 10-mile void is the Folly Beach 10-Mile Run, which will be held 8 a.m. Nov. 10.

Pat and Mike Loggins of The Extra Mile in Charleston said a 10-mile run fits the training schedules of runners training for the Kiawah Island Marathon and Half Marathon on Dec. 8. In the wake of this year's cancellation of the Folly Beach Half Marathon, Folly seemed a good location for a 10-miler.

"This first year we are not expecting a huge crowd, but hope to build on it some each year," says Pat, adding that title sponsor, Atlantic Bank & Trust, is excited about growing the event.

The cost is $45 for the 10-mile run and $30 for a five-mile walk. Some proceeds will benefit the James Island High School cross country team. Contact www. extramileinc.com or 853-9987.
