RON DAISE | writer Subject: “Essay: Splashing Through Childhood” Behind the scenes: Ronald Daise is an author, historian, and performing artist who resides in Beaufort. A native son, Ronald showcases his Gullah heritage and links it to West African cultures in his book Gullah Branches, West African Roots (Sandlapper Publishing). His next project is a CD of selected readings and songs from the book. “Writing this essay allowed me to celebrate the importance of family – an earmark of Gullah culture.”
TERRY KUZNIAR | photographer Subject: “Delectable Delights:
Doin’ the Charleston Bump" Behind the scenes: A Chicago native, Terry began his career in commercial photography more than 10 years ago, his clients including Lowe’s, Blockbuster Entertainment and DirecTV. His favorite subjects include people, portraits and food, including the dish he got to taste for this shoot. “I’d never had wreckfish, and it was good. Very mild, and the texture was great.”
TOMME HILTON | photographer Subject: “A Lowcountry Life:
Maria Dobrzanska Reeves” Behind the scenes: One of Charleston’s most sought after wedding photographers, Tomme’s background in art and a true love for people has made her business a passionate and successful fusion. She brought that “people personality” to this shoot: “Maria was wonderfully warm to work with and open to any suggestions. We had fun and it was easy to draw feelings from her.”
WENDY SWAT SNYDER | writer Subject: “A Lowcountry Life:
Maria Dobrzanska Reeves” Behind the Scenes: Originally from New York where she wrote for CBS and HBO, Wendy has been a Charleston resident for more than 20 years and writes for a variety of local and national publications. “I love hearing about how people found this place and came to start new lives. The bonus with this assignment was the Polish background Marysia and I share. I still have family there – it was a rare opportunity to talk about those ties.”
