Ray Ray to play for Gamecocks?Posted 02:58 p.m., May 15, 2008 The Birmingham News reports that former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who has transferred to Jacksonville State, says Ray Ray McElrathbey has expressed interest in joining him at the school in Jacksonville, Ala. In addition to McElrathbey, Jacksonville State has also apparently talked with UTEP receiver Fred Rouse, who didn't last at Florida State because of some off-the-field problems. Gamecocks coach Jack Crowe told the paper he has spoken to both McElrathbey and Rouse and will do his "due diligence" to look into the backgrounds of both players. Clemson's coaches elected not to renew McElrathbey's scholarship a few months ago because of their belief that McElrathbey was undependable and irresponsible. McElrathbey gained national fame in the fall of 2006 after taking custody of his brother Fahmarr, then 11. I haven't spoken with McElrathbey in a while, so I don't know if this is a done deal. I have heard that he's planning on taking Fahmarr with him wherever he does end up. It'll be interesting to see what happens. Ray Ray is a pretty talented athlete, and he could end up making an impact wherever he goes. I do know some coaches out there, perhaps Crowe, are wary of taking in Ray Ray because of how things ended in Clemson. But there's no doubt this kid deserves a second chance. LW |

I hope every Clemson fan, like myself, wishes nothing but the best for both RayRay and Fahmarr now and in the future. If Ray does decide to finish his football eligibility at another school, I hope Clemson still extends the graduate assistant offer and hope RayRay takes full advantage of every aspect of it.

I second ashleyriver's sentiments. Ray Ray deserves a second chance. If it means playing for SC, so be it. I'll support him in whatever he does.

It was a messy and unfortunate ending for Ray Ray at Clemson. Even though the coaches felt -- and feel -- totally justified in giving him the boot, I think most of them believe he deserves a second chance somewhere.
I know offensive coordinator Rob Spence made calls to a bunch of schools voicing his support for Ray Ray.
