Morning outlookPosted 06:51 a.m., May 15, 2008 World stock markets were mixed overnight as faster-than-expected economic growth in Europe fueled some optimism but mixed corporate news and inflation worries kept some shares under pressure. Oil and gold futures prices were slightly higher, while the dollar lost ground against other major currencies. Gasoline pump prices continued to climb, with the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded in the Charleston area reaching another record high this morning at $3.633, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. That’s up from $3.611 yesterday, $3.229 a month ago and $2.821 on this date last year. Major economic reports due today: 8:30 a.m.: Weekly initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits. Consensus forecast: 370,000, up from 365,000 last week. 9:15 a.m.: April industrial production index. Consensus forecast: down 0.3 percent compared with a 0.3 percent rise in March.
