OvernighterPosted 06:58 a.m., May 7, 2008 Stock markets overseas were mostly modestly higher overnight as energy shares rose on record oil prices and financial stocks gained on optimism that the worst of the credit crisis may be over. Oil futures were slightly lower after Tuesday’s record high, while gold gained and the dollar weakened. The price of gasoline locally rose to an average of $3.491 this morning, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. That’s up from $3.473 yesterday, $3.186 a month ago and $2.809 a year ago. Economic reports due today: 8:30 a.m. First-quarter labor productivity and costs. Consensus forecast for productivity (worker output per hour): up 1.7 percent (annualized), less than the 1.9 percent rate in the fourth quarter of 2007. Forecast for unit labor cost: up 2.6 percent (annualized), the same as the fourth quarter. 10:30 a.m.: Weekly Petroleum Status Report from the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration.
