Boo's the manPosted 05:45 p.m., April 20, 2008 HILTON HEAD ISLAND - Boo Weekley successfully defended his championship Sunday in the Verizon Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links. When Weekley won last year's title, he chipped in for pars on the 71st and 72nd holes to beat Ernie Els by one shot. Weekley had two chip-ins Sunday to keep his momentum going, holing out for par from about 20 yards on the 10th hole to retain a five-shot lead and then chipping in from 30 feet on the par-3 14th. Weekley hit his approach shot into the greenside bunker on 18. He blasted to seven feet but missed the par putt to shoot 71, his first round in the 70s in the two Heritages he has played. He finished at 269. Anthony Kim and 2006 champion Aaron Baddeley tied for second at 12-under 272. Kim struggled early and shot 71 while Baddeley posted a final-round 69. Jim Furyk finished fourth at 69-273, while Cliff Kresge posted a 71-274 to finish fifth. Check Monday's Post and Courier for the complete story. |
