Casper to Carolina (the NFL version)Posted 03:59 p.m., April 28, 2008 COLA -- Casper Brinkley was hopeful of being a late-round pick in the draft. Didn't happen, but he is now at least with an NFL team. Brinkley agreed Monday to a free agent deal with Carolina. The Thomson, Ga., native bounced between end and outside linebacker after coming to USC from Georgia Military. In some senses, he played in the shadow of brother Jasper, a talented middle linebacker. But Casper showed playmaking versatility of his own. He was one of very few seniors to play this past season for the 6-6 Gamecocks. Brinkley had 59 total tackles in '07, including three sacks. Don't be at all surprised if he hangs on with the Panthers. -- Th |
