Finally for Boyd

Posted 06:16 p.m., April 27, 2008

COLA -- Had to have been a long wait in Orange, N.J., today, but Cory Boyd's goal of being on an NFL roster was finally realized at about 6 p.m.

The Tampa Bay Bucs took the USC RB with the 238th overall pick in the draft. By the way, there are 252 total picks in the draft.

It's all sort of ironic, since coach Jon Gruden was just in Columbia for USC's coaching clinic.

No comment from the ESPN peanut gallery about Boyd. Mel Kiper was more concerned about Adrian Arrington, the Michigan WR who went one pick earlier.

Most, including myself, thought Boyd was worthy of something better than s seventh-round pick. He'll have a chance to prove that in a place that has shown there are opportunities for runners.

Cadillac Williams has been banged-up in his still-young career. Former UF back Earnest Graham was productive in Williams' absence this year, but there's still room for others.

My guess is, Boyd finds a way to make the squad as a special teams kind of guy. His coaches are going to fall in love with him if he plays anywhere close to what he played like here.
