The Citadel has not announced it yet, but 6-4 guard Bo Holston told his hometown paper in Maryland that he has signed with the Bulldogs. The article:

Holston signs with the Citadel

Sherwood swingman to play in Whitmore’s old conference

by John Y. Wehmueller | Staff Writer

Sherwood High senior Bo Holston joined the ranks of NCAA Division I scholarship athletes last week, signing to play basketball at The Citadel.

‘‘I visited there last weekend and really liked the location and the coaches,” Holston said. ‘‘It had a family feel to it. ... They wanted to offer me [during the season], but didn’t have a scholarship available at the time. As soon as one freed up, they called and made me the offer, told me to come down and visit.”

Holston took his visit to the Charleston, S.C. campus April 26-27, and signed early last week.

The 6-foot-4 guard was a member of the Warriors’ 2007 Class 4A state championship team, and an All-Gazette honorable-mention selection as both a junior, when he averaged 13.5 points per game, and a senior, when he averaged 13.8. He transferred to Sherwood before his junior year from St. John’s (D.C.).

The Citadel is a member of the Southern Conference, the same league in which Sherwood coach Dondrell Whitmore played, at Western Carolina. The Bulldogs finished 6-24 last season, 1-19 in conference.

‘‘I think he’ll fit well [in the conference],” Whitmore said. ‘‘He’ll definitely go in there and have a vast impact on the league.”

Holston said The Citadel was the only Division I program to offer a scholarship, but he also garnered interest from American (D.C.), Tulane (La.) and Rice (Texas) universities. Other programs recommended he spend a year at a prep school, and he considered it but said he ‘‘was just ready to go to college.”

Holston will play on the wing for the Bulldogs, a similar position to the one he occupied for the Warriors. The Citadel is also a military academy, something Holston said was not a deciding factor either for or against the school.

‘‘I really wasn’t looking for it, but I think it’s just going to help prepare me for life,” he said. ‘‘Not just basketball, but education-wise, too. With a degree from there, it’s going to help you get a good job.”
