Battery inks two players from trialsPosted 06:48 p.m., April 8, 2008 The Charleston Battery signed a couple of guys this week. Here’s the release from the Battery: The Battery signed former Cuban national team midfielder Osvaldo Alonso for the upcoming USL First Division season. Alonso played for the Battery on trial during the recent Carolina Challenge Cup matches; he featured in each game and registered an assist during Charleston’s 2-0 victory versus Major League Soccer’s Toronto F.C. The Battery has also agreed to terms with defender Tim Velten who comes to Charleston from the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL2); both players sign pending USSF approval. Osvaldo Alonso Both Stephen Armstrong and Lazo Alavanja remain with their respective MISL teams for the playoffs and won’t be available for the Battery’s game with Miami on Saturday. something doesnt sit right with me about Pato signing with Montreal to me.
Normally it seems to take sometime for contracts to be worked out and the USL to approve them. But after playing with the Battery at the Charlotte match, he is announced by Montreal. I wonder how long he knew he was going to sign with Montreal yet still led the Battery along?
