CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK - Searchers are still looking for a father and his two children who said they were lost in the Congaree National Park.

Park spokeswoman Dana Sohen (SOH'-in) says search crews have checked about one-third of the 27,000 acres in the park east of Columbia.

The family was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The search will pause at dark but will continue Tuesday. Sohen says officials have closed the park until the family is found.

Family members say J.R. Kimbler took his 10-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter for a hike at the park. They don't think he planned to spend the night because he left his daughter's medicine and his cigarettes behind.

Authorities say Kimbler sent a text message Saturday night. Family members say he told a friend was lost.
