City fire report: 'It is not going to be pleasant'

A preliminary federal report has provided fresh details about the chain of events at the fatal Sofa Super Store fire, but another report coming this week is expected to provide greater context and insight into how those events led to the deaths of nine Charleston firefighters.

Busch overcomes boos to win at Darlington

DARLINGTON — The crowd booed him. He called his car pathetic. His crew missed a lug nut, and he couldn't stay off Darlington Raceway's wall. Despite it all, Kyle Busch found Victory Lane once again. NASCAR's least popular driver raced to his third Sprint Cup Series victory of the season Saturday night, winning a battle of attrition at the track 'Too Tough to Tame.'

Across the United States, dozens of cities have adopted federal standards for working on historic buildings, but when someone suggested Charleston do the same, many bristled at the idea. It's not just that Charlestonians have a historical legacy of resisting the federal government, though they do. It's also that this city often has been at the vanguard of the nation's preservation movement. Residents here organized to save old buildings many decades before any federal preservation standards were put to paper. And some saw flaws in the federal rules.
